He is also the only player to have won the Main Events of both the WSOP and WSOP Europe. Since 2009, all open events, including the Main Event, count towards Player of the Year.
Turbo tournaments are MTTs standard tournaments where the blind levels increase quickly. A Sit & Go tournament (SNG) is typically one or two tables and starts out right after every seat is filled. A tournament series may consist of either single-table or multi-table tournaments. Separate portions of each player’s buy-in go towards a prize pool and a “cash out” pool. For example, in a ten-person, $5 game, there may be two players remaining with $29 and $21, respectively, worth of chips.
Online poker tournaments are competitive events where every player starts with the same number of chips and plays until one winner remains. Online poker tournaments reward long-term strategy and endurance, while cash games focus on steady profit and flexible session times. For players new to online poker, freerolls, Sit & Go (SNG) tournaments, and low buy-in multi-table tournaments (MTTs) are great starting points. Sit & Go tournaments (SNGs) are fast, single-table games that start as soon as enough players register with no set start time required. Unlike cash games, where players can leave with their chips at any time, tournaments continue until one player has all the chips.
What I like most about APT is their big lion trophies, especially the golden-colored lion trophy for their main event, which is the trophy I want to win the most right now. APT tournaments generally start and end earlier, and the buy-ins are lower and more affordable. There were some reporters who refused to do chip counts because they thought it beneath them even though tournament coverage without chip counts is like a baseball game without a scoreboard. But it was also one of the first times that I was not just ‘allowed’ to bring my personality to the table but encouraged. You are also beholden to your client to deliver a product they want.

EPT Paris Final TableThe €5,300 EPT Paris 2023 Main Event attracted 1,606 entries (from 1,159 unique players).
The largest and most well-known tournament in Europe is the European Poker Tour, which was founded in 2004 by John Duthie and is now the largest poker tour in the world by both total players and prize pool. No-limit games also vary widely according to the proclivities of the players; an informal, emergent, betting structure is developed by the players’ personal strategies and personalities. The most common playing format for poker tournaments is the “freezeout” format. Top players in this event, in lieu of a cash prize, are awarded seats to the main tourney, with the number of places dependent on participation. Multi-table tournaments involve many players playing simultaneously at dozens or even hundreds of tables. The cash out rate is typically fixed, and a time when players may not cash out (such as the final table) is usually established.

It’s good to have a baseline strategy that you can use at any table – maybe you never open anything worse than King-Jack offsuit from under the gun during the early levels at a 6-max Hold’em tournament. These stacks also require a different approach than you’d use with the familiar 100 big blind stacks at a typical cash table.

This version will feature a $2M championship event from Nov. 5-10, a big piece of almost $4M in total guarantees across the series. That said, I’ll probably end up going, because I won both the $10K and $25K APT events in January, and each champion got a seat to the APT Main Event in November. That’s why I’ll join APT events as often as my schedule allows. So apart from the summer WSOP series in Las Vegas, I spend most of my time in Asia.

Who can play in live poker tournaments?
Online tables see a far greater volume of hands dealt compared to live poker. Responsible gaming tools are available to keep players in control. Licensed poker sites also undergo independent audits to make sure poker games are fair. Tournament types include bounty tournaments where prizes are awarded for eliminating competitors. Formats determine how poker games are structured.
Live players might enter one or two tournaments a day, and those tournaments can take several days to complete. Some people choose only to play tournaments; they’re more fun, and the promise of a big cash prize at the end of the rainbow can be too hard to pass up. But they don’t have quite the same allure as poker tournaments.

Online poker games run 24 hours a day with global player pools. Poker tournaments require players to buy in for a fee then everyone starts with a set amount of chips. The online format means gameplay is faster than live poker. The main types of poker tournaments are Multi-Table Tournaments (MTTs), Sit & Go’s (SNGs), and Turbo Tournaments. Effective stack management is critical in poker tournaments, where losing all your chips means elimination.
The Daily Dollar
The distribution of prizes depends on the number of entrants, and the number of payout positions increases if more participants enter the tournament. Some tournaments also offer re-buys, add-ons, or re-entries, meaning you have the option to purchase more tournament chips. Deletion of your profile will only affect your online profile and will not affect or otherwise delete your play history. This approach enhances your chances of entering significant events without the need for a substantial investment. Players can use filters on these platforms to find tournaments matching their preferences, like location and buy-in level. Turbo tournaments, on the other hand, feature faster blind levels and shorter durations compared to standard tournaments.
A key feature is the three-tier buy-in system (Low, Medium, and High), which means every event is available at different price points. PokerStars runs the WCOOP annually with prize pools that have exceeded $100 million. Last year, the event was announced only after the Series in Las Vegas ended, and we expect a similar situation this year. At this time, the WSOP has not announced any dates for WSOP Paradise, but following the success of the inaugural edition last year, we expect to see it added back to the schedule in 2024 as well.
The way I would describe it is that preflop, when you’re playing no-limit hold’em, you can make some really big mistakes. How many times did you have to rebuy in all of those combined events? The GGPoker pro believes the game plays directly into the post-flop instincts he’s spent a lifetime developing. It took just over three hours of play to knock out the first seven players, but McKeehen and Greufe were very deep, so finding a winner lasted even longer than that. The PLO event will end on Day 2 and the NLH edition will play down to a final table on September 1.
This time around, the WPT Main Tour will be played at the same venue, with the Main Event featuring a buyin of AUD $8,000 and a variety of side events played in the lead-up. If you can’t quite make it to Las Vegas this summer for whatever reason, keep December in mind as another time when you can play a huge poker event in the same city but at a slightly different period. I would describe the WPT World Championship as the best alternative for players who cannot make it to Vegas in the summer or who want a second major $10k event on their schedule. I have played the WSOP Main Event multiple times, and the single biggest reason it belongs on your list, even ahead of some technically prestigious events, is the field composition.
